Executive Chairmen of Kuje and Gwagwalada Area Councils have pledged to replicate the infrastructural drive of Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, in their respective area councils.
The chairmen made the pledge in Abuja on Wednesday, on the sideline of the Inauguration of the newly constructed 7-kilometre Kuje to Gwagwalada dual carriageway, Phase I.
They described Wike’s systematic development, modernisation, and expansion of essential public facilities and services in the FCT as “exemplary”.
Speaking on the newly constructed road, Chairman of Gwagwalada Are Council, Mr Mohammed Ikwa, said that residents of Gwagwalada, Kuje and other parts of FCT would benefit greatly from the road.
Ikwa, who described Wike as a “Messiah” to FCT residents, said he would follow the minister’s footsteps in delivering dividends of democracy to his people.
He pointed out that despite inheriting a lot of liabilities he has no excuse for failure.
“By the grace of God, just like he has charged us, we have a marching order to follow suit by giving our electorates the dividend of democracy,” he said.
He said that Wike’s delivery of life impacting infrastructural projects is making the country proud and making FCT a better place to live in.
He said that the minister is opening satellite towns and connecting every section of the territory, adding that with development everywhere, every resident was feeling the impact of governance.
“All we can say is, we are grateful, and more grease to his elbow for the determination to make FCT a great city. May God continue to bless him as he sets the pace for us at the local level to follow.
“We shall emulate all his good agendas by the grace of God,” he said.
He promised to intervene in all sectors to transform Gwagwalada to a better place as outlined in his 7-point agenda.
He said that the 7-point agenda would focus on security, agriculture, health, education, and inclusive government governance among others.
“I planned to work with the traditional institution for accountability and transparency and provide skill acquisition training and empowerment opportunities for both women and youth, including persons with disabilities,” he said.
On his part, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Chairman Kuje area council, Mr Danjuma Shekolo, also expressed commitment to replicate what Wike is doing in FCT in Kuje communities.
Shekolo, said that the benefits of the Kuje to Gwagwalada Road were enormous, particularly its impact on socio-economy and security.
“As you can see, for the first time, traveling from Kuje to Gwagwalada Area Council will take you just 10 to 15 minutes, unlike before where it would take you more than one hour to get to Gwagwalada.
“In terms of the socioeconomy, of course, this area is going to develop and economic activities in Kuje and Gwagwalada Area Councils will increase.
“The road will also improve security along the road corridor. Before now this road was the most difficult to follow from 6:00 p.m., but now you can follow this road as late as 12:00 midnight because of the security lights,” he said.
The chairman thanked President Bola Tinubu and Wike for delivering the road project as promised, stressing that for years ministers after ministers only made promises but Wike delivered. (NAN)
