Kwali chairman prioritises grassroots development in first 100 days

By Uche Bibilari

The Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr Nuhu Kwali, says his administration has prioritised grassroots development within its first 100 days in office.

Kwali said this at an event marking his 100 days in office and the 30th anniversary of Kwali Area Council on Thursday in Kwali.

“The first 100 days have been a period of responsibility, engagement and action.

“From the beginning, I understood that leadership at the grassroots is not measured only by the number of projects, but by the extent to which government responds to the realities people face everyday.

“This has guided our approach from the very beginning,” he said.

According to him, his administration has commenced and delivered interventions across key areas of community development.

He listed the areas to include education, healthcare, roads, water supply and agriculture.

“We have rehabilitated healthcare facilities in Lambata and Kilankwa II, renovated a primary school in Wako, and advanced interventions on important rural roads.

“This includes the Piri-Gumbo and Dabi-Bako roads. We have also commenced efforts to improve access to water through solar-powered boreholes in selected communities,” he said.

He said agriculture remained central to the livelihood of many families in the council, adding that the council had commenced efforts to support farmers with essential inputs and strengthen agricultural productivity.

Kwali said the interventions were not merely projects to be counted, but were aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of residents.

“Behind every road is a farmer or trader trying to move goods. Behind every health facility is a family seeking care.

“Behind every classroom is a child whose future deserves investment, while behind every borehole is a community that deserves access to safe and reliable water,” he said.

The chairman, however, acknowledged that the first 100 days represented only the beginning, adding that more work was required to meet the expectations of the people.

He pledged that his administration would continue to listen to communities, engage stakeholders, prioritise responsibly and utilise resources entrusted to it for the collective good.

Kwali appreciated his deputy, councillors, management and staff of the council, traditional rulers and others for their contributions to the administration’s progress.

He also thanked the people of Kwali for their support, trust, patience, constructive criticism, encouragement, prayers and cooperation.

The chairman reaffirmed his commitment to serving with humility, accountability and determination, while building on existing interventions and addressing areas requiring attention.

He expressed optimism that the council would continue to work toward improving access to services, creating greater opportunities, supporting farmers and building confidence among residents.

Earlier, the Etsu Kwali and Chairman, Kwali Council of Chiefs, HRH Luka Nizassan III, said the 30th anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of past and present leaders.

Nizassan called on Kwali residents to sustain peace and support the government for the development of the area.

He congratulated the chairman on his first 100 days in office, describing his engagement with the traditional institution and commitment to the welfare of the people as commendable.

According to him, Kwali Area Council, since its creation 30 years ago, has remained a symbol of resilience, unity and cultural pride.

He said the area had grown from a humble beginning to become “the cradle of education and the heart of the Federal Capital Territory.”

Nizassan assured the council administration of the traditional institution’s support and prayers.

He stressed the palace’s commitment to collaborate with the government to promote peace, protect the people’s culture and empower youths and women.

He also urged residents from different ethnic groups to continue to live peacefully, support government programmes and remain good ambassadors of Kwali.

Sen. Phillip Aduda, while congratulating the chairman and the people of Kwali, said the chairman had taken grassroots development to its peak.

Aduda called on Kwali residents to always support government efforts to improve their lives.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the event was the presentation of four Sienna buses to support the traditional institutions and a car to a political leader.

Other items distributed included 30 Bajaj motorcycles to security personnel and other beneficiaries, 60 sewing machines to support skills acquisition, grinding machines to selected beneficiaries.

Also distributed were 130 cartons of agricultural herbicides to local farmers and 40,000 exercise books to LEA Primary School, Kwali, among others.(NAN)
