Rep. Babajimi Benson (APC-Ikorodu) has facilitated the approval of a new school building and an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre for Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos.
The projects, expected to benefit more than 700 students, youths and community members, are aimed at addressing educational infrastructure gaps and expanding access to digital skills and technology training.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects were approved during Benson’s working visit to the LCDA and are expected to be completed before the end of 2026.
Benson, who represents Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the interventions were part of efforts to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He said the school building would provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, while the ICT centre would equip youths and other residents with relevant digital skills.
“Education remains a critical foundation for the development of our communities, and we will continue to support interventions that provide our children with conducive learning environments.
“The ICT centre will provide our youths and other residents with the opportunity to acquire relevant digital skills and prepare them for opportunities in today’s technology-driven economy.
“These interventions are consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in education, skills development and youth empowerment,” Benson said.
He assured residents that appropriate oversight would be provided to ensure that the projects were completed on schedule and to the required standard.
Mr Hammed Aroyewun, Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, commended Benson for facilitating projects that addressed the immediate needs of residents.
Aroyewun said the development underscored the importance of collaboration between elected representatives and local authorities in attracting development to communities.
“We appreciate Jimi Benson for his continued commitment to Igbogbo/Baiyeku. These projects will make a significant difference in the lives of our people, particularly our youths and students,” he said.
According to him, the new school facility is expected to improve the learning environment for more than 500 students, while the ICT centre will provide digital skills training for over 200 youths and community members annually.
He said the projects would also create opportunities for technology-driven employment, enterprise development and access to modern learning resources.
The council chairman said the LCDA would collaborate with relevant authorities to monitor the projects and ensure their timely completion.
A resident, Mr Kunle Adebayo, described the development as a welcome intervention, saying improved school facilities would contribute to better learning outcomes.
“This is the kind of intervention that will have a direct impact on families. Our children need conducive classrooms and modern facilities to learn effectively,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs Yetunde Salami, said the ICT centre would give young people easier access to digital skills and improve their employment prospects.
“Digital skills are very important today. Having an ICT centre within the community will make it easier for our youths to learn, develop their talents and explore new opportunities,” she said. (NAN)
