Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, a philanthropist, has committed more than N87.5million to sponsor free surgeries for vulnerable patients suffering from hernia and hydrocele in Katsina State.
A member of the Mangal Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Mr Hussaini Kabir, revealed this during a screening exercise for patients at the Katsina General Hospital.
Kabir explained that the intervention was carried out quarterly.
The board of trustees member added, “In the first quarter, the foundation supported about 400 patients, spending N28million.
“In the second quarter, 500 patients received treatment at a cost of N29.5million.
“For this last quarter of 2025, about 900 patients have so far registered. We’re expecting more patients, therefore, we expect to spend not less than N30million.”
Kabir said that the foundation has been providing free surgeries and medical treatment every quarter since its establishment in 2013.
“This initiative does not only benefit residents of Katsina metropolis but also reaches people in rural communities and neighbouring states.
“Our aim is to ease the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable individuals who struggle to meet basic needs,” he said.
He appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to support similar humanitarian efforts, emphasising the need for collective action to address healthcare challenges in underserved communities.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative and called on the government, private organisations, and wealthy individuals to emulate such gestures.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Adamu Abubakar, prayed for the benefactor, saying he had lived with a hernia condition for a long time but could not afford surgery due to economic hardship. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
