‎The Social Development Action Trust (SDA-Trust), an NGO, has pledged support for the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to strengthen inclusive governance, enhance fairness and balanced representation in public service.

‎This is contained in a statement issued by Yunus Abdulhamid, Manager, Strategic Communications and Influencing, SDA-Trust on Friday in Abuja.

‎Abdulhamid quoted the Interim President of SDA-Trust, Hussaini Abdu, to have described the FCC as a critical institution for promoting inclusion and equal representation in public service

‎Abdu said the visit to the commission was aimed at exploring practical areas of collaboration to support institutional reforms, strengthen public engagement and improve the Commission’s operational capacity.

He noted that although the FCC played a vital role in promoting national inclusion, the institution had not always received the level of attention and support commensurate with its constitutional mandate.

‎“We are here to explore practical areas of collaboration.

“SDA-Trust is keen to work with the Commission to identify institutional gaps, support ongoing reform efforts and strengthen its capacity and public engagement,” he said.

‎Abdu added that the organisation was ready to support strategic development initiatives backed by funding, while expressing confidence that the collaboration would advance national cohesion and inclusive governance outcomes.

‎Responding, the Executive Chairperson of the commssion, Ayo Omidiran, reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to partner with relevant organisations to reposition it for improved service delivery.

Omidiran said that her vision was to build a Commission that would serve all Nigerians equitably, irrespective of ethnicity or religion, while addressing challenges affecting the effective implementation of its mandate.

‎She appreciated SDA-Trust for the visit, noting that its partnership proposal aligned strongly with the Commission’s reform objectives.

‎“Our collective national interest must always guide leadership and governance, and we welcome partners who share this commitment,” she said.

‎The chairperson also acknowledged ongoing efforts to improve institutional transparency, including the recent launch of the Commission’s website, as part of broader reforms ahead of its forthcoming 30th anniversary. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
