Beijing, May 13, 2026 (NAN)Nigeria is now China’s largest engineering contracting market.
Li Hengtian, Deputy Director at the China International Communications Group (CICG),
disclosed this on Wednesday in Beijing at the opening of a Seminar for Renowned Nigerian Commentators.
He also described Nigeria as China’s second-largest export market, third-largest trading partner, as well as a major investment destination in Africa.
Li, also the Deputy Director, CICG’s Education and Training Centre, organisers of the seminar, expressed the hope that the joint efforts of both countries would result in steady progress.
“More and more Nigerian youths are travelling east to pursue the starlight of knowledge in Chinese institutions.
“More and more Chinese builders are heading west to Nigeria to sow the seeds of development on its fertile soil.
“This year, the two countries are working together to build a China-Nigeria community with a shared future,” he said.
Li, however, said the media has a critical role to play in tackling prejudices and advancing China-Nigeria cooperation.
According to him, journalists from both countries must break down the barriers of a single narrative.
“Today, in Beijing at the beginning of summer, we are here precisely for stories —to tell China’s stories, to listen to Nigeria’s stories.
“Even more so, to together write a new chapter of China-Nigeria friendship,” he said.
A representative of the delegation from Nigeria, Olunkwa Felix, thanked the institute for its warm reception.
He described the forum as a platform for learning, cultural exchange, international cooperation, and personal development.
According to him, China continues to play a significant role in global development, innovation, education, and international collaboration.
“In a rapidly changing world, opportunities like this help us broaden our perspectives, strengthen global understanding, and build lasting relationships across nations.
“We are confident that the knowledge and experiences we gain here will positively impact our respective careers, institutions, and communities when we return home,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 20 journalists and officials from the National Assembly and Foreign Affairs Ministry are participating in the seminar.
NAN is being represented at the forum by its Editor-in-Chief, Mufutau Ojo.
Also present are the Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times Newspaper, Mr Musikilu Mojeed; Editor (Abuja), This day Newspapers, Dr Iyobosa Uwugiaren and Head of Station of KaftanTV, Mr Reuben Okala.
