The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) have congratulated Malam Ali Muhammad Ali on his reappointment as Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The unions, in separate messages on Wednesday in Abuja, described the reappointment as recognition of Ali’s professionalism, experience and leadership in strengthening the agency.
The NUJ President, Mr Alhassan Abdullahi, said the reappointment demonstrated confidence in Ali’s leadership and the progress recorded by NAN under his stewardship.
He said “your renewed appointment is a well-deserved recognition of your wealth of experience, professionalism and commitment to strengthening NAN as a credible and globally respected news agency.”
Abdullahi commended Ali for his contributions to news gathering, dissemination and professional journalism, particularly on the efforts to combat misinformation and promote credible information.
He expressed confidence that the renewed mandate would enable Ali to consolidate NAN’s achievements, embrace emerging technologies and strengthen its position in the digital media environment.
He added that “we are confident that your renewed mandate will provide opportunities to consolidate the gains already recorded and further position NAN to meet evolving demands.”
The RATTAWU General-Secretary, Mr Akpausoh Akpausoh, who also congratulated Ali, described his reappointment as “testimony to his professionalism and administrative competence.
“This reappointment certainly confirms your doggedness and professionalism in the discharge of your duties in the organisation.”
He commended Ali’s leadership style and administration, adding that the reappointment was a well-deserved recognition and vote of confidence in his capabilities.
“We applaud this well-deserved recognition and vote of confidence in your capability. We wish you Allah’s guidance and support in the discharge of your duties ahead,” he said.
The unions wished Ali renewed strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the agency and Nigeria’s media industry.
President Bola Tinubu approved Ali’s reappointment for another three-year term as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAN on Aug. 23.
He was first appointed on Oct. 20, 2023, while the second term will begin on Oct. 20, 2026.
Ali holds a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, (BUK), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from BUK too.
