The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has hailed the recent appointment of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode as Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to South Africa by President Bola Tinubu.
This is contained in a statement signed by Dr Smart Nwobi, NUSA President General, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
NUSA said it received the news of Fani-Kayode’s appointment with “great excitement and optimism,” adding that the entire Nigerian community across the country eagerly anticipated his resumption of duty.
It expressed confidence that Fani-Kayode’s “wealth of experience, distinguished public service, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s national interest,” would usher in a new era of stronger bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa.
“Your arrival is expected to further strengthen the bonds between the Nigerian diplomatic mission and the community, deepen engagement with stakeholders, and reinforce the shared commitment to protecting the interests and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa.
“We look forward to working closely with Your Excellency in advancing initiatives that will enhance the welfare of our people, strengthen consular engagement, promote investment and trade, and foster an even stronger partnership between the High Commission and the Nigerian community,” it said.
The statement said NUSA remained steadfast in its mission of promoting unity, responsible leadership, community development, and constructive collaboration among Nigerians across South Africa.
It further reaffirmed NUSA’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian diplomatic mission in every lawful and constructive manner that would advance the interests of Nigeria and its citizens in the country.
While wishing Fani-Kayode success ahead of his assumption of office, NUSA assured him of the unwavering support of Nigerians in South Africa, its goodwill and cooperation.
It added that NUSA, as the umbrella body representing Nigerians in South Africa, eagerly looked forward to welcoming the high commissioner-designate to South Africa and to a productive and impactful tenure in office.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
