The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos on Tuesday praised the state government for improving facilities at its temporary orientation camp, describing them as more befitting.
The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christina Salmwang, made the commendation at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A, Stream 2, Orientation Course.
The event held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.
Salmwang said that renovations were carried out across hostels in the camp.
She said that the renovations included replacement of ceilings, windows and roofs.
Salmwang said that there was also upgrade of conveniences within the camp.
The coordinator said that the aim was to create a better environment for corps members.
She thanked the Lagos State Government for support.
She said that the corps members were disciplined.
She charged the corps members to demonstrate excellence and commitment in their primary assignments, while upholding integrity.
In his remarks, the state Gov. Sanwo-Olu said that his administration had been supporting corps members through allowances, entrepreneurship programmes, mentorship and funding via the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund.
The governor said that the aim was to promote self-reliance among corps members.
He appealed to employers to accept corps members, support their welfare, and ensure conducive working environments for effective service delivery.
Sanwo-Olu was represented by Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to corps members’ welfare, highlighting upgrade of facilities at the temporary orientation camp.
He added that there had been sustained improvements in corps members’ accommodation and healthcare services.
“Lagos State remains committed to creating a conducive environment that supports corps members’ growth, welfare, and development throughout their service year,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that outstanding corps members in the batch were honoured with certificate of merit.
Also, Miss Abisola Ajide, who served in the 2024 Batch B, Steam 1, was rewarded with N500,000 by Lagos State Government.
The corps member was rewarded for renovating a toilet at St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Ikeja, and championing waste disposal advocacy at Onilekere Junior Secondary School. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
