The Osogbo Metropolitan Lions Club on Thursday donated instructional and educational materials to secondary school students to boost academic excellence.

The materials were donated to students of Albayan International School, Osogbo.

The initiative, with the theme, “Productivity, Goal Setting and Time Management,” was aimed at equipping the students with practical skills for achieving academic and personal success.

Speaking at the event, the President of the club, Mr Murtada Osineye, said the initiative was designed to motivate students to take their education seriously by embracing productivity, goal setting and effective time management.

Osineye urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the materials provided and remain focused on their studies.

He said productivity required setting clear goals, adding that every student should set targets to achieve greater heights in their various subjects and courses.

According to him, students must understand the purpose of their education, define their goals clearly and remain committed to achieving them.

“If the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable, and failure is a seed.

“I encourage you all to be productive, set your goals right and be hardworking,” he said.

Osineye further explained the concept of SMART goals, which must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.

He said effective time management was crucial to achieving success, urging the students to create time for activities that would contribute to their personal and academic development.

“How well you manage your time will determine the altitude you will reach in life. Create time for yourself to achieve success.

“Students must cultivate the habit of ‘do it now’ without any form of procrastination,” he said.

Osineye added that the club would continue to support young people and contribute to the development of education in the community.

He, however, appealed to other organisations and well-meaning individuals to support initiatives aimed at improving the educational development and welfare of students.

Mr Oladoye Olubunmi, Chief Education Officer, Osun State Board for Technical Education, said the programme would go a long way in educating the students and preparing them for the challenges ahead.

Olubunmi urged the students not to be lazy in their academics and to imbibe the key principles discussed at the programme.

Earlier, the Principal of the school, Mr Lowo Abdulwasiu, appreciated the Lions Club for the gesture, saying the intervention would go a long way in motivating the students and improving their academic performance.

Abdulwasiu urged the students to hold on to what they had learnt and make proper use of the three pillars highlighted by the club’s president.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that textbooks, mathematical sets, writing materials, among others, were presented to the students.(NAN)
