The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Mutiat Disu, has reaffirmed the association’s commitment to uplifting the lives of its members .
Disu said the association leadership would continue to do so by helping the needy, exploring new opportunities for economic empowerment, prioritising mental health and emotional wellbeing as well as skills acquisition.
She gave the reassurance at the grand finale/gala night of the three-day annual POWA convention held in Abuja on Saturday.
She also reassured the association’s commitment to supporting widows and vulnerable families in the society.
According to her, the invaluable role of police officers’ wives cannot be over-emphasised.
“We will continue to strengthen their commitment by helping the needy explore new opportunities for economic empowerment and prioritising their mental and emotional well-being.
“We will renew commitment to skills acquisition, as well as supporting widows, vulnerable families and one another.”
She acknowledged all the delegates from the POWA national body and sister associations, urging them to use everything they achieved during the convention to strengthen their state chapters.
“To my dear management team, state chairpersons, city formation wives and every member of our great association, as you return to your various commands and states, I encourage you to carry the spirit of this convention with you,” she admonished.
The POWA president also acknowledged the association’s grand patron, the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police, Tunji Disu, for all of his support to the welfare to the wives of police officers.
“Your confidence in POWA continues to inspire us to do more, and we remain sincerely grateful for your leadership,” she said.
In his goodwill message, the I-G of police, commended POWA members, acknowledging that being the wife of a police officer required the same resilience as their husbands and noting that they often demonstrated the toughness and dexterity of trained officers.
Similarly, the Special Guest of Honour, the First lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, commended the POWA president for hosting a successful annual convention.
Represented by the wife of the Minister of Defence, Mrs Oghogho Musa, Tinubu oted that by celebrating excellence, others would be inspired to also serve and be impactful.
“As spouses, mothers, mentors and caregivers, we provide the encouragement, stability and strength our husbands need to effectively serve in their duties,” she said.
She encouraged the women to continue to build on the bonds formed throughout the convention and use it to evolve and become more resilient.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured an inter-zone dance competition, which was won by Mrs Precious Okamba from Anambra command, who went home with the star prize of N1 million for her victory.
