The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has reached thousands of widows, persons living with disabilities and low-income families in Osun.

The distribution, which took place in Osogbo on Thursday, marks the latest leg of RHI’s monthly nation-wide humanitarian campaign designed to cushion economic hardship and restore dignity to society’s most vulnerable populations.

The First Lady, who was represented by Wife of the Vice-President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, formally handed over the food consignments to the wife of Osun governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, for direct delivery to beneficiaries.

She explained that the core mission of the scheme was to ensure no Nigerian feels forgotten or left behind, regardless of their physical condition or economic status.

“The initiative is designed to ensure that vulnerable citizens receive the support they need, irrespective of their status or circumstances.

“We remain committed to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians through sustained humanitarian interventions that provide direct support to families in need,” she said.

Tinubu added that the steady flow of food security across Nigerian states has been sustained through strategic philanthropic partnerships.

She said that two full truckloads of high-grade food staples were being deployed to two states every month.

She said that the initiative was being supported by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) alongside an anonymous donor whose generous contribution fully funded the Osun relief package.

Expressing appreciation to the donors, Sen. Tinubu revealed that Ogun and Akwa Ibom states have been slated as the next beneficiaries of the ongoing food outreach.

“By addressing immediate nutritional needs while creating avenues for social inclusion, the initiative will continue to turn humanitarian care into visible, smiling faces across households nationwide,” she said.

Receiving the delegation, Gov. Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, praised the First Lady’s vision, describing the outreach as a “masterclass” in compassionate governance.

Adeleke called on state and local council authorities to replicate the RHI food bank structure to strengthen social safety nets across the country

He pledged Osun’s full support toward sustaining the initiative locally.

In her remarks, Mrs Adeleke said that the initiative has added another deeply impactful chapter to Osun’s history.

She said that beyond food assistance, RHI programmes have consistently touched lives across the state through direct welfare grants for elderly citizens and widows, financial micro-support for petty traders and targeted investments in agriculture, healthcare and basic education.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the scheme, inaugurated in March 2024, had so far reached 31 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

It is part of RHI’s broader commitment to social inclusion and humanitarian support for Nigerians facing economic and social vulnerabilities. (NAN)
