The Rotary Club, Ibadan City Central, on Friday, donated educational materials to pupils of Nawar-U-Deen (N.U.D.) Primary School, Ido in Ibadan, to support learners and contribute to community development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gesture was in line with its “Back to School Project” in commemoration of Basic Education and Literacy month.
The items donated to the pupils include 1,000 copies of 60-page exercise books, 120 pairs of socks, 500 pieces of sharpeners, 500 erasers, 500 pens, 500 pencils and 55 school bags.
Speaking at the event, the club’s President, Mrs Halimat Omotosho, said that the donation was part of the club’s community service activities aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society and promoting access to education.
She said that the donation would go a long way in making learning easier for the pupils and as well reduce the financial burden on their parents.
“Rotary is all about humanity and serving communities. That is why we came here today to support and engage with the students.
“We are very happy and grateful that we have fulfilled our promise to them,” the president said.
According to Omotosho, the initiative was also aimed at identifying pupils in need and providing them with essential learning materials to support their education.
The president expressed satisfaction at seeing the students receive the items, noting that their smiles made the initiative worthwhile.
“As you can see, there are smiles on their faces, and that makes us very happy.
“We pray that, by God’s grace, we will be able to return and do more for them as Rotarians,” Omotosho said.
In her remarks, Mrs Morenike Bello, a member of the club, urged the pupils to focus on their studies, shun bad peer group, in order to realise their desired goals and to contribute meaningful to the society and Nigeria in general.
Also speaking, Rotary District Governor, Mr Olaniyi Okin, represented by the District’s Chairperson, Basic Education and Literacy, Mrs Folake Ladeinde, commend the club for impacting on pupils’ lives.
Appreciating the gesture, the school’s Headmistress, Mrs Adesina Olajumoke, thanked the club for the assistance to the pupils.
Olajumoke said that the gesture would go a long way in improving standard of education in the community and the state at large.
The Onido of Ido, Chief Muritala Gbolagade, represented by Ashipa Onido, Chief Rahman Ajibade, thanked Rotary Club of Ibadan City Central for assisting the pupils with their educational needs.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
