Three Rotary clubs in Abuja on Wednesday donated medical equipment worth more than N30 million to Bethralpha Medical Centre, Wuye, to strengthen maternal and neonatal healthcare services.

The donation, comprising 20 hospital crank beds, incubators and two phototherapy lights, was undertaken by the Rotary Club of Abuja Guzape, Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond and Rotary Club of Abuja-Aso Golf.

The project was supported by The Rotary Foundation through District Grant No. 2681591.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the District Governor of Rotary International District 9127, Dame Joy Okoro, said the intervention demonstrated Rotary’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and saving lives.

According to her, the equipment will enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide quality care for mothers and newborns.

“Today’s commissioning is not merely about donating equipment; it is about restoring hope, preserving lives and supporting healthcare professionals with the tools they need to serve humanity better,” she said.

Okoro urged corporate organisations, philanthropists and development partners to complement government efforts in strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

She added that investments in maternal and child health would continue to deliver long-term benefits to families and society.

Also speaking, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond, Rt. (Rev.) Hansel Chigborogu, said the project was conceived following an assessment of healthcare needs within the community.

He said the clubs prioritised maternal and neonatal healthcare because of its importance in reducing mortality rates and improving family wellbeing.

“The donation of these beds, incubators and phototherapy lights is our contribution toward ensuring that healthcare providers have the capacity to deliver timely and quality medical care,” he said.

Chigborogu added that the clubs were proud to collaborate in executing a project that would benefit patients for many years.

President of the Rotary Club of Abuja-Aso Golf, Rt. Lizzy Asomugha, said the intervention reflected Rotary’s commitment to addressing community challenges through practical and sustainable solutions.

“Through this project, we are investing in lives, supporting healthcare professionals and contributing to the well-being of future generations,” she said.

Asomugha also disclosed that the club would undertake a tree-planting and waste-bin donation project in a school as part of its environmental sustainability initiatives before the end of its tenure.

In his remarks, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Guzape, Rt. Emmanuel Omeri, described the project as evidence of the power of partnership and collective action.

“As Rotarians, we are inspired by opportunities to serve humanity. We believe that every investment made toward improving healthcare services contributes directly to saving lives and building stronger communities,” he said.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of Bethralpha Medical Centre, the Head of Administration, Venerable George Agu, thanked the Rotary clubs and The Rotary Foundation for the donation.

He said the equipment would greatly improve the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised neonatal and maternal healthcare services.

“We are deeply grateful for this generous donation. This equipment will strengthen our service delivery and enhance our ability to provide quality care to patients,” Agu said.

He assured the donors that the equipment would be properly maintained and utilised for its intended purpose.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event attracted Rotarians, healthcare professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders. (NAN)
