The Nigerian Army has advised students to shun things that could negatively affect their lives and hinder them from contributing meaningful to the development of Nigeria.
The Director, 2 Division Nigerian Army Education Services, Col. Michael Williams, gave the advice at a Public Speaking Engagement held at the Command Day Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme had as its theme: “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army”.
The event was part of activities to mark the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), commemorating 163 years of the Army’s service to the nation.
Williams called on students to be disciplined, patriotic and obey rules and regulations of the country.
He assured of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting the nation and serving the citizens.
“Beyond our constitutional responsibility of defending the country, we believe in mentoring the younger generation to become responsible citizens who will contribute positively to the country’s growth and development,” the director said.
Williams further urged them to consider pursuing a career in Army and as well serve as ambassadors of peace in their respective communities.
In his lecture, Capt. Adamu Usman, urged students of the school to shun cultism, exam malpractices, illicit drug consumption — vices which could negatively affect their careers.
Usman also advised them to imbibe values of honesty and integrity in order to contribute to the development of their society and Nigeria in general.
Also speaking, the Commandant of Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdulahi, urged the students to always seek for knowledge, adding that knowledge is key to success in life.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the School Headboy, Ismaheel Sheyombo and Headgirl, Juliana Ebute, appreciated the speakers for imparting value to them.
NAN reports that highlight of the occasion was the donation of books and writing materials to the school and students.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
