Abuja, July 2, 2026 (NAN) Abia State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) says no fewer than six students will benefit N2.8 millions prizes from its maiden essay writing competition.
State Secretary of Labour Party, Mr Chuks Akamadu, disclosed this in his speech made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the essay topic is: “The New Abia and Need for Consolidation,” and those who can participate are students in secondary schools or tertiary institution.
Secondary schools students who emerge winners from category ‘A’ will receive N500,000, N300,000 and N250,000 prizes respectively while tertiary institutions students from category ‘B’ will get N1 million, N500,000 and N250,000 prizes
Akamadu said, “We start the Labour Party Abia State Chapter first-of-its-kind Essay Writing Competition, in line with our functions as a political party.
“Incidentally, it also aligns with the vision of our National Leader and Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, which is to grow a well-organised, disciplined and impact-oriented party.”
According to the party’s scribe, it also aims, on the one hand, to promote “Equal Opportunity and Social Justice” and, on the other hand, to complement good governance.
He described the LP as a political party that is alive to its responsibilities in a democratic society, adding that responsibilities include articulating public policy priorities and responding to civic concerns.
“We are equally mindful of our role to educate voters and citizens on the functioning of the political and electoral system, as well as promoting the right political values.
“By this initiative, Labour Party Abia State aspires to elevate the conversation around youth involvement in our political process.
“This is because the Essay Writing Competition is designed to activate and mobilise the youth segment of our society to contribute to the ongoing political transformation Abia State has witnessed in the past three years – under the watch of Gov. Alex Otti.”
Akamadu said through the literary exercise, the party was seeking to collate ideas and perspectives of young Abia people, and have them synthesised into viable policy options and government programmes.
“This is so because as the ruling party in Abia, we reckon that we have a duty to periodically scan our environment, evaluate preponderant public opinions, distill them and present the outcome to our government in power for consideration.”
The party’s scribe called for entries from all Abia citizens home and abroad who fall under either of the categories to send in their entries on or before July 17, 2026.
“For both categories, a valid entry must not exceed 1,500 words. Entrants are also required to write their names and schools/institutions directly below the Essay Topic, and have their well-written essays submitted via Labour Party’s official e-mail address: info@labourpartyabia.com.ng.
“The Prize-Giving Day Ceremony will hold on Aug. 3rd, 2026.” (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
