Mr Anthony Osarobo, Executive Chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Council, has pledged to provide school uniforms for 40 primary school pupils as schools resume for the new academic session.
In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Benin, Osarobo made the pledge during the flag-off of the new school session.
The local government council chairman urged pupils across the council to embrace discipline, hard work and kindness.
Addressing pupils, teachers, parents and guardians, he said education should go beyond academic performance to prepare children to become responsible and compassionate members of society.
“Set a goal. Work hard. Be disciplined. Be kind. And never give up on yourself,” Osarobo told the pupils.
He urged the pupils to listen to their teachers, respect their parents and guardians, and remain determined when faced with academic challenges.
Osarobo also advised them to shun bullying and discrimination but support one another to create an environment where every child feels respected and valued.
He said the provision of uniforms for the 40 pupils is intended to support the children and encourage greater commitment to their education.
The chairman commended teachers for their dedication to educating and shaping the younger generation, urging them to remain patient and committed to their responsibilities.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s education by monitoring their progress, encouraging regular attendance, and maintaining close communication with schools.
Osarobo urged the pupils to dream big and prepare for their future, stressing that education provides a foundation for achieving their aspirations.
He wished the pupils and students a successful academic session, urging them to “learn well, behave well, dream big and make us proud”. (NAN)
