Mr Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, an aspirant for Edo South Senatorial District, says the 2027 general elections offer a critical opportunity to reposition the youth generation.

Ogbeide-Ihama stated this during a consultation visit to the Oredo Local Government Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday in Benin.

The aspirant said youth voters represent a generation that “must not be wasted”.

Ogbeide-Ihama, a former member of the House of Representatives, while addressing party faithful, described his ambition as a bridge between youth energy and governance experience.

“This generation must not be wasted. These are your children and grandchildren,” he said.

He urged elders and party leaders to support a leadership shift that reflects the realities of younger Nigerians.

“When you pray for your children, you are praying for me,” he said.

Ogbeide-Ihama argued that while youth inclusion is important, it must be backed by capacity and exposure, stressing that leadership requires more than age.

“We are not talking about sentiment; we are talking about ability and track record. I am experienced and generationally relevant,” he said.

Drawing from his eight-year tenure in the Green Chamber, he said young leaders must combine ambition with practical knowledge of governance to be effective in the National Assembly.

“Legislative business is serious business. You must understand the system, build relationships and know how to deliver for your people,” he said.

He maintained that his political journey places him within the reach and understanding of younger constituents, while still commanding the experience needed to navigate national politics.

“Only someone who understands the struggles of this generation can truly represent them,” he added.

The former lawmaker also highlighted what he described as his electoral strength, noting that winning elections across party lines demonstrates both grassroots acceptance and strategic relevance.

“Winning from the opposition is not easy. It shows capacity,” he said.

While reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, he made a case for generational transition anchored on competence.

“There is urgency. We cannot continue the same way. We need leaders who understand both the system and the people,” he said.(NAN) www.nannews.ng
