A support group for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, City Boy Movement, has promised to deliver one million votes in the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.

The Coordinator of the group in the state, Ahmed Ajibola, made this known at the maiden national discourse organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Tribune Newspaper Chapel, on Thursday in Ibadan.

The event was tagged โ€œTribune Discourse.โ€

Ajibola said the President had demonstrated capacity and leadership through various youth-driven policies and the continuous implementation of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

He listed initiatives such as the student loan scheme, subsidy reinvestment programme, economic reforms, decentralisation of the power sector, and new tax policies, among others, as measures that had repositioned the country on the path of growth.

According to him, the various reforms have repositioned Nigeria on the path of greatness.

He explained that the movement plans to establish about 1,000 members in each of the 351 wards across the 33 local government areas of the state.

Ajibola added that if each member mobilises two or three additional voters, the group would comfortably achieve its one-million-vote target for the President.

He dismissed allegations that the group was being bankrolled by politicians for selfish interests, insisting it was sustained through voluntary donations from members who believe in youth empowerment.

โ€œThe City Boy Movement serves as a dynamic platform connecting progressive leadership with the energy, creativity and strength of the youth population.

โ€œIt acts as a bridge between leadership and the people, ensuring governance remains inclusive, participatory and responsive to community needs.

โ€œIn Oyo State, the movement is committed to mobilising one of Nigeriaโ€™s most historically influential and strategically positioned states towards a shared vision of unity and sustainable development.

โ€œAcross all 33 local government areas, we are focused on building a strong grassroots structure that drives engagement, empowerment and measurable impact,โ€ he said.

Ajibola said the group had embarked on sensitisation and mobilisation of youths towards voter registration and active participation in politics.

He said this would help reduce voter apathy and encourage the emergence of youths with innovative ideas in positions of authority to drive good governance and positive national development.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Nigerian Tribune Chapel, Mrs Bunmi Ishola, said the union and its discourse platform were non-partisan in nature.

Ishola said the forum was created to provide a platform for politicians, entrepreneurs and parties in the state to share their vision and programmes with the public.

โ€œThis platform is created as a meeting point for distinguished personalities, politicians and the general public to shed light on burning issues in society.

โ€œIt gives the public opportunities to get answers directly from the source without relying on rumours that can lead to misconceptions,โ€ she said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
