The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has resigned from his position.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ganduje turned in his resignation letter to the partyโ€™s National Working Committee (NWC), through its National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru, on Friday.

The former Kano State Governor, in the letter, hinged his decision to throw in the towel on health grounds.

Ganduje, who was elected as the sixth APC National Chairman on Aug. 3, 2023, said he had to step aside to enable him take care of his health.

NAN reports that in line with the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Dalori, is to take over the leadership of the party, pending the partyโ€™s national convention scheduled for December.

NAN also gathered that Gandujeโ€™s sudden resignation threw the partyโ€™s national headquarters into confusion, as staffers and party members were seen gathering in groups to discuss the development.

A senior member of staff in the partyโ€™s administration department, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told newsmen the all the personal effects of the chairman and those of his aides had been removed from the office.

When contacted, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, said that he was not aware of the development.

Morka, however, promised to call back after making consultations.

NAN also reports that the development has thrown members of the partyโ€™s National Working Committee (NWC) into panic, as some of them described Gandujeโ€™s decision to quit his position as national chairman as a rude shock.

However, two other members of the NWC contacted on phone claimed ignorance of the development.

A reliable source within the partyโ€™s hierarchy told NAN that Gandujeโ€™s resignation would not affect other NWC members or its operations.

โ€œIt is only the national chairman that was affected. All other members of the NWC are to carry on their responsibilities.

โ€œThe office of the national chairman will be filled during the next national convention in December,โ€ the source said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
