The Niger State government has called for collective action towards achieving sustainable food security in the country.

Dr Matthew Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of Niger Ministry for Agriculture, made the call in a statement in Minna on Thursday to commemorate the 2025 World Food Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the celebration is ”Hand in Hand for Better Food and Better Future”.

Ahmed emphasised the importance of partnership and community efforts in ensuring everyone has access to safe, nutritious and affordable food.

“As we celebrate World Food Day, we must reflect on the need to work hand in hand across all sectors.

“To build resilient food system that not only feed our population but also protect our environment and empower our people,” he said.

He highlighted the efforts of the state government under the Gov. Umaru Bago-led administration in transforming the agricultural landscape through various initiatives.

He said the initiatives include expansion of mechanised farming and irrigation schemes, support for smallholder farmers and promotion of value chain development and agro-processing.

Others, he added, were investing in rural infrastructure to facilitate the smooth movement of farm produce, and strengthening partnerships with national and international agricultural development partners, donors and organisations.

“Together, we can build a future where no one goes hungry, where our farmers thrive and where the fruits of our labour nourish generations to come,” he added.

He emphasised that food security cannot be achieved by government alone, but through a united front involving farmers, private investors, development partners, research institutions, academia and citizens.

He called on stakeholders to continue to support government’s vision of agriculture prosperity which aligns with global efforts to eradicate hunger, reduce poverty and ensure a better future for all.

Ahmed reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to empowering farmers, promoting sustainable practices and creating an enabling environment for food security and agricultural growth across in Niger.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
