The Delta government says it has resuscitated the payment of N15,000 monthly stipends to widows under the State’s Widows Welfare Scheme.

The coordinator of the scheme, Isioma Okonta, said this while speaking with newsmen in Asaba on Saturday.

Okonta said the beneficiaries of the scheme started receiving credit alerts on Thursday.

He said each widow received the stipend in continuation of the state’s government effort to support vulnerable women in all 270 wards in the state.

Okonta added that the latest payments marked another phase in a welfare programme widely praised for its consistency and impact.

He stated that each beneficiary received a lump sum of N45,000, covering the months of August to October.

According to him, the gesture brought significant relief to the widows amid economic pressures.

He noted that the scheme is a key programme of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s socio-economic policy aimed at lifting vulnerable populations out of hardship.

“This initiative is not just about giving money; it is about restoring dignity, providing hope, and showing our widows that they are not forgotten.

“Through the governor’s visionary ‘MORE Agenda’, we are reaching those who need support the most,” he said.

The coordinator said that since its inauguration, the scheme had impacted thousands of widows across the state, providing them with a reliable source of financial assistance and easing the burden of daily survival. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
