Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed to 26th globally and third in Africa in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Monday.
The rise followed Nigeria’s strong outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where the team finished third overall.
Nigeria moved up 12 places from 38th, recording the highest points gained in the rankings after winning six of their seven matches at the tournament.
Under coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles defeated Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, Algeria and Egypt, before losing their semi-final match to hosts Morocco on penalties.
Nigeria now rank behind AFCON winners Senegal, who are 12th globally, and Morocco, who are placed eighth, while Algeria and Egypt occupy fourth and fifth in Africa respectively.
FIFA noted that AFCON results significantly influenced the latest rankings, with several African teams recording notable upward movement.
Globally, Spain remains top, followed by Argentina and France, while the next FIFA rankings will be released on April 1, 2026.
