The Turkish Red Crescent has supported the Nigerian Red Cross Society in delivering food parcels and relief items to 1,020 persons affected by a recent flooding in Oko-Amakom community, Asaba, in Delta.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Turkish Embassy in Abuja.

It said that 107 households benefited from the gesture, adding that each family received 25 kilogrammes of rice, 12 kilogrammes of beans, five litres of groundnut oil, Aqua Tabs, a jerry can, and a tippy-tap bucket.

It quoted the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) as saying that the relief materials were delivered with the dedication of NRCS Delta State volunteers and strong coordination with community leaders.

“Following the recent floods in Oko-Amakom community, Asaba (Delta State), the NRCS, with support from the Türk Kızılay (Turkish Red Crescent) delivered food parcels and relief items to 170 households (1,020 flood affected persons).

“Each family received 25kg of rice, 12kg of beans, five litres of groundnut oil, Aqua Tabs, a jerry can, and a tippy-tap bucket to support both food needs and safe water practices.

“With the dedication of NRCS Delta State volunteers and strong coordination with community leaders, the distribution was carried out smoothly and with dignity,” it said.

The event was attended by Mr Selçuk Öztürk, Head, Middle East and Africa region (Turkish Red Crescent), and Dr Benson Agbro (Director, NCRS Disaster Management).

Others were Chief Adolphus Anuagasi, Branch Chairman and Mrs Hope Egbelo (NRCS NHQ Programmes Department).

The statement noted that the combination of various organisations that graced the distribution exercise was a reflection of the strong partnership behind the disaster response effort. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
