President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman and Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Mohammed Ali, have been inducted as associate members, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

Other inductees at the event held at ARCON headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja included Director-General National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu and Director-General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mohammed Bulama.

Mr Sunday Baba, Special Assistant on Administration to the Minister of Information and National Orientation and Suleiman Haruna, Director of Public Relations, in the ministry were also inducted as associate members.

In his remarks, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of ARCON, commended the new members for joining the council.

He charged them to be good ambassadors of the advertising profession, adding that with their certification, they were qualified to explore opportunities in the industry.

“As you are aware, induction exercise is a regular thing for any profession, because from time to time you admit people into your membership.

“They applied for membership of the advertising professionals, and this shows that there is something unique about the profession

“In line with the law, they are supposed to take the oath of membership, which we are to administer to them, and we have done that today.

“They are charged with the responsibility of being good ambassadors of the advertising profession,” he said.

Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the event, the NAN MD said the induction was an exciting moment for him as a media professional.

“I feel very excited that finally I have joined   the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria after years in journalism.

“I’m a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the Guild of Editors, and finally I have crowned it all with being a member of ARCON.

“I feel very legally compliant as this has given me that legal strength to pursue and practice art of advertising without any constraint.

“I would recommend that those who have not joined and they are in this business of media advertising should quickly hasten to join the ARCON,” he said.

NAN reports that ARCON is advertisement regulatory body established by the federal government in 2022.

It was formed to regulate and control advertising in Nigeria, replacing the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria Act (APCON) with the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act of 2022.

ARCON’s primary responsibilities include regulating and controlling advertising in Nigeria, safeguarding the interests of the public and consumers, promoting local content, and implementing global best practices. (NAN)
