A 35-year-old man, Tobi Sunday, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obstructing a police officer from carrying out his lawful duty.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault.
The police prosecutor, ASP Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 30 at about 9.00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted and obstructed Insp. Andah Mohammed while discharging his lawful duty.
Osuolale said the offence contravened Sections 187(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant bail, assuring that the defendant would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Ms Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until April 9 for hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
