The Delta Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday, elected a new executive committee (EXCO) to pilot the affairs of the party in the state, ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The committee emerged during a well-attended state delegates’ congress held in Asaba, the state capital.
The exercise drew hundreds of delegates, party chieftains, elders, and stakeholders, and was conducted peacefully with participants maintaining decorum.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security personnel were on ground to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the exercise.
All the candidates for the various positions were returned unopposed through voice votes.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Kingsley Okafor, said the exercise followed the dissolution of the caretaker committee and duly moved and seconded motions for the congress.
Party chieftains and stakeholders reaffirmed commitment to reshaping the country’s political landscape.
They cited insecurity, economic hardship, and corruption as key challenges requiring urgent political attention.
A former 2023 Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Ken Pela, described the influx of prominent figures into the party as a realignment, driven by shared values and purpose.
He said that the defection of Peter Obi to the party had strengthened its structure and signaled renewed hope for Nigeria and Delta.
Reiterating the party’s mission, Pela emphasised his commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges, including rising fuel prices and widespread hardship, when elected as governor.
He also said that many citizens were aligning with the party to defend their votes and confront security and economic issues.
In his acceptance speech, the new State Chairman, Chief Richman Oyindubra, described the congress as successful and significant for national progress.
“At this point, we have built the Nigeria Democratic Congress in unity and without rancour.
”This election places a responsibility on us, and we are committed to justifying the confidence reposed in us by working towards victory in the 2027 General Elections,” Oyindubra said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other speakers expressed optimism about the party’s prospects and pledged their readiness to work towards the party’s success in the upcoming polls.
The EXCO included Mr Sylvanus Ossai (Deputy Chairman), Mr Oscar Akpojene (Vice Chairman, South), Mr Aaron Ekeamaka (Vice Chairman, North), and Mr Obukowho Doghor (Vice Chairman, Central).
Others were Mr McCollins Nwose ( Publicity Secretary), Philip Adu (Secretary), Genevieve Emeremgini (Women Leader), Moses Otaru (Legal Adviser), and Kelvin Azazue (Financial Secretary), among others. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
