Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has organised a quiz competition for its staff in its efforts to enhance intellectual growth for efficient service delivery.

The competition held in Uyo on Wednesday was part of the activities for assembly’s 3rd anniversary celebration.

Declaring the competition open, Dr Nsidibe Akata, Deputy Leader, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, urged the staff to continue to study and improve themselves for better performance.

Akata, also the Chairman, 3rd Anniversary Planning Committee, said the quiz reflected the commitment to promoting continuous learning, team work, healthy competition and professional excellence within the legislative institution.

“Legislation thrives not only on the contributions of the elected members but on the dedication, competence and institutional knowledge of their staff.

“This competition celebrates the invaluable roles of the staff, strengthening the legislative process and sustaining the effectiveness of the Assembly,” he said.

Akata encouraged the participants to compete with confidence, integrity and the spirit of sportsmanship.

He noted that while prices would be won, the greatest reward would be the opportunity to learn and deepen the knowledge of the institution they work in.

He thanked the House leadership, especially the speaker and everyone who made the competition a success and Gov. Umo Eno for the support given to the assembly members in the last 3 years.

“It is my hope that this initiative will be a permanent feature in the future legislative week celebrations to inspire excellence,” Akata said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Administration and Welfare department scored first with 13 points, Legislative department took the second position with 11 points, and Budget, Finance and Supply came third with nine points.

On her part, Mrs Nsikak-Abasi Orok, the Clerk of the House, expressed delight for the large turn out of staff at the occasion, saying that it showed their love for knowledge and learning.

She said that the initiative was a contest of knowledge and an opportunity to strengthen team work, while promoting healthy intellectual engagement among the staff.

“As an institution committed to excellence, we recognise that knowledge remains one of our greatest asset in delivering effective and efficient legislative support services,” Orok said.

She added that the competition aligned with the ARISE agenda of Gov. Umo Eno, particularly in the area of education, human capital development, capacity building and institutional excellence.

Orok said by investing in the intellectual growth of their workforce, they were contributing to the vision of building a more productive, efficient and people-oriented public service.

She thanked the planning committee and heads of departments for their commitment to ensure that the event was successful.

Orok reminded them that every participant is a winner for embracing the opportunity to learn and grow.

“As we celebrate three years of purposeful leadership and institutional progress, let us remain committed to professionalism, integrity, diligence and continuous self-improvement in the discharge of our responsibility to support the ARISE agenda,” she said. (NAN) www.nannews.com.ng
