The Nigerian Army has intensified leadership training for its personnel to equip them with skills required to navigate the complexities of modern military operations.
Retired Maj.-Gen. James Myam, the Director-General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration of the centre’s Leadership Skills Development Course 16/2026.
Myam said leadership, tactics and operational training remained continuous requirements for the Army to effectively respond to contemporary security challenges.
He said the Army Headquarters had remained proactive in training and retraining personnel to develop the competencies required for modern soldiering.
According to him, the leadership course is designed to equip non-commissioned officers and mid-level officers with practical leadership skills.
He said the course would expose participants to critical thinking, emotional intelligence, mentorship, team building, coaching, communication and decision-making.
Myam also identified inter-agency collaboration and cooperation as key components of the training, given the increasing demands of joint and multi-agency security operations.
He urged participants to actively engage facilitators, ask questions and apply the knowledge gained to their responsibilities in formations and units.
“We expect a positive impact when you return to your formations and units,” he said.
The NARC director-general also charged the participants to maintain a high level of discipline throughout the course.
He commended the facilitators and resource persons for their commitment to delivering the objectives of the programme.
Myam also appreciated Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff and Chairman, Board of Trustees of NARC, for his guidance and support to the Centre’s activities.
He equally acknowledged members of the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders for their contributions to the development of the Centre.
The Leadership Skills Development Course 16/2026 is expected to deepen participants’ leadership competencies and enhance their effectiveness when deployed to their respective formations and units. (NAN)
