Abuja, Oct 14,2026(NAN)The former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Kabiru Adjoto, says collaboration between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government and opposition parties protects citizens’ interests and promotes national development.

Adjoto made the assertion in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, while reacting to the inclusion of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra(APGA), Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun(Accord) and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike(PDP) into the APC presidential campaign council.

Adjoto emphasised that democracy thrived when political parties prioritised the welfare of citizens above partisan interests, adding that cooperation was essential for national unity and sustainable development.

He stated that President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to encourage cooperation among political parties were aimed at strengthening national brotherhood, promote peaceful elections and create an enabling environment for development.

According to him, political differences should not prevent parties from working together on issues affecting citizens, particularly those relating to security, economic growth, infrastructure and social welfare.

Adjoto said constructive engagement between the ruling party and opposition would deepen democratic values, reduce political tension and encourage a more peaceful atmosphere before, during and after elections.

The former speaker said opposition parties could benefit from constructive engagement with the ruling party without abandoning their constitutional responsibilities of providing checks and balances.

“Democray is very sweet when the rulling and opposition parties work together to protect the interest of the citizenry instead of those of the parties.

“That is what President Tinubu wants to achieve. It strengthens national brotherhood, peaceful election, and brings about development.

” This initiative is s better for the opposition,” adjoto said.

Adjoto urged political leaders to place national interest above party loyalty, stressing that the ultimate objective of democratic governance should be improving citizens’ welfare.

Adjoto reiterated that cooperation among political parties would strengthen national unity and create opportunities for inclusive governance that would benefit Nigerians across political, ethnic and religious divides(NAN)
