The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Working People United (WOPU) has declared 100 per cent support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The endorsement was announced by the Chairman of the group, Mr Musa Fadawa, during a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Fadawa explained that the decision to back the President’s second-term ambition was unanimous, following extensive consultations with union members across the six area councils of the FCT.
He described WOPU as a broad-based grassroots movement representing diverse working-class citizens, including teachers, nurses, drivers, artisans, traders, civil servants, students, and ordinary Nigerians who strive daily to build the nation.
Elaborating on the rationale behind the endorsement, Fadawa praised Tinubu for displaying exemplary leadership, deep courage and a clear vision aimed at building a better Nigeria.
He said that the President has demonstrated uncommon empathy and understanding toward civil servants, organised labour, and everyday working-class citizens since assuming office.
Highlighting the President’s approach to labour relations, Fadawa noted that Tinubu chose to listen when others might have ignored workers’ plight, opting for constructive negotiation rather than forced policy implementation.
He pointed out that the approval of wage awards and a new national minimum wage reflected the President’s deep appreciation of workers as the true engine of the nation’s economy.
“This recognition extends directly to everyday workers—from civil servants in Garki and teachers in Kuje to nurses at Wuse General Hospital and laborers in Jabi,” he said.
Fadawa stressed that for the first time in many years, working-class Nigerians feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected at the highest level of federal governance.
He commended the President’s open-door policy, respect for dialogue over confrontation and unwavering commitment to uplifting the dignity and welfare of Nigerian workers.
“It is precisely for these reasons that WOPU was established,” Fadawa stated.
He noted that diverse labour sectors united to express gratitude for the protection of workers’ interests.
The chairman added that the group’s stance is straightforward: a President who consistently stands by workers naturally earns their full political support.
Fadawa revealed that WOPU drew inspiration from the grassroots mobilisation of the City Boys Movement, particularly its clear messaging and dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also attributed its decision to the visible, result-driven leadership of FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, whose administration has transformed the federal capital territory.
Fadawa cited extensive infrastructure projects across Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali Area Councils, alongside upgraded streetlights, bridges, schools, and water projects.
“These developmental projects directly create jobs for union members, improve transit for drivers, boost commercial activities for traders, and restore civic pride to FCT residents,” he said.
The WOPU Chairman described the ongoing transformation in the capital as a direct reflection of Tinubu’s vision, proving that the Renewed Hope Agenda is an active reality rather than mere theory.
Reflecting on past governance, Fadawa said that Nigeria had lived on borrowed time because previous administrations hesitated to implement tough but necessary economic reforms out of fear of unpopularity.
He applauded Tinubu for boldly undertaking critical policy shifts, such as removing the fuel subsidy, unifying foreign exchange rates, and restructuring the national economy.
While acknowledging the initial hardships of these reforms, Fadawa argued that positive outcomes were emerging, characterised by economic stabilisation, growing national revenue and reduced reliance on borrowing for salaries. (NAN)
