The Rotary Health Community Challenge (RHCC) has taken the fight against three child-killer diseases to rural communities in Kebbi.

Speaking with the Village Head of Dagimu village in Argungu Local Government Area on Wednesday, Dr Dele Balogun, the Country Lead, Rotary Health Community Challenge (RHCC), said the team was in the village to monitor and evaluate RHCC’s Malaria Diarrhoea Mitigation Programme.

Balogun, a public health physician, said the team was touring participating LGAs to examine and assess the impact of the programme.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Malaria Diarrhoea Mitigation Programme is a pilot intervention scheme focusing on malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia, which has been ongoing in Kebbi and Akwa Ibom as pilot states.

NAN also reports that the Rotary Health Community Challenge (RHCC) is a three-year initiative launched to curb under-five child mortality from the three killer diseases in Nigeria.

The country lead added that they were in Kebbi together with their funders, the Rotary Foundation and the PATH, to ascertain the level of impact the RHCC project had made in various communities.

“We are here in this village to see how the CHIPS agents are working in this community. We are also here to ask you some questions on the performance of these CHIPS agents.

“We want to know the areas of strength and weakness. We also want to seek suggestions from you on how we can improve for the overall success of the project,” he said.

In his contribution, Dr Festus Adetonwa, Head of Advocacy Committee, RHCC, urged the community leader to pinpoint areas of lapses in the programme, if any, for necessary amendment.

He sought the support and cooperation of the village community to ensure total success of the programme.

Responding, Malam Maigari Ma’azu-Dagimu, the Village Head, who spoke through Aliyu Barmo-Kwararo, Ward Development Community (WDC), Lailaba ward, expressed delight over the visit.

“Actually, we are satisfied with what the CHIPS agents are doing. Your services have exposed us to many things. Now we know where to take our children in case of sickness like malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia.

“Therefore, we are appealing for the extension of the programme. We also appeal for more CHIPS agents in this community because we are enjoying your services,” he said.

NAN reports that the team also visited Sarki Sani Model Primary School, Argungu, where additional CHIPS agents, Focal Persons and Supervisors were receiving training.

The team interacted with trainees to measure their level of understanding and expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and commitment of the trainees.

The tour of the training venue further boosted the morale of the visiting team, particularly the responses of the trainees to questions asked by visitors.
