The Naija Drone Soccer League (NDSL) will take drone soccer to Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones through a National Combine scheduled to run from Oct. 26 to Nov. 9.

The league’s Chief Operations Officer, Orkuma Mchiater, disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Mchiater said the event would encourage interest in infusing technology into sports.

“The initiative aims to introduce young Nigerians to the sport, promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and encourage interest in emerging technologies through sports.

“Technical experts from the United States will participate in the programme to demonstrate drone soccer, showcase equipment and share technical knowledge with Nigerian participants and stakeholders,” Mchiater said.

According to him, the combines will hold in Gombe on Oct. 26, Abuja on Oct. 29, Kano on Nov. 1, Uyo on Nov. 4, Enugu on Nov. 7 and Lagos on Nov. 9.

He said the Abuja event would take place at Starville School, Jahi II, while the Gombe event would hold at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall.

The statement added that the league had appointed Nasiru Bello and Ibrahim Yunusa to take charge of franchise teams in Kano and Lagos.

“Bello is expected to lead efforts to develop the Kano franchise and identify emerging talents across the North-West, while Yunusa will provide strategic leadership for the Lagos-based team.

“The duo will help strengthen the league’s franchise structure, support team development and establish an organised and sustainable drone soccer ecosystem in Nigeria,” Mchiater added.

The league said the combines would feature demonstrations, equipment displays and technical engagements to familiarise participants with the sport and its technological applications.

The statement also noted that drone soccer could help young people develop teamwork, coordination, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills while stimulating interest in engineering and innovation.

NDSL said schools would play an important role in introducing students to the sport and creating opportunities for practical engagement with technology.(NAN)
