TracTrac Mechanisation Service Ltd (TracTrac MSL), Nigerian-led agricultural
technology company, has unveiled Young People in Mechanisation (YPiM), aimed to address shortage of technical skills in the country.
Godson Ohuruogu, Chief Executive Officer of TracTrac MSL, disclosed this at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.
Ohuruogu said the initiative would also raise new generation of mechanisation leaders.
According to him, this is Nigeria’s first youth-focused mechanisation movement
and a flagship initiative powered by TracTrac MSL.
“It is designed to address the sector’s shortage of technical skills and low youth participation.
“The initiative equips young Nigerians aged 18 to 35 with practical skills, mentorship, and access to opportunities in mechanisation, entrepreneurship,
innovation, leadership, and advocacy.
“This initiative helps them build sustainable livelihoods while contributing to agricultural transformation and food security.
“Young people should not just observe the future of agriculture. They should lead it.” Ohuruogu said.
The CEO said the company had facilitated the deployment of no fewer than 800 tractors across multiple states in the country.
He said that it had impacted over 500,000 farmers and supported a network of over 6,000 Mechanisation Service Providers (MSPs) since its inception.
Ohuruogu described the organisation as building one of the country’s most extensive mechanisation networks and redefining access to mechanised farming for smallholder farmers across the country.
He said that through technology, strategic financing and on-the-ground partnerships, TracTrac connected farmers, tractor owners, and MSPs to improve access to mechanisation services.
Ohuruogu identified one of the organisation’s key model as TracTrac Plus describing the platform as the company’s flagship digital platform that connected farmers directly with MSPs in real time while supporting asset tracking, farm mapping, and demand aggregation.
“The platform has installed over 5,000 apps and facilitated over 2,000 mechanisation service engagements.
“This impact is driven by TracTrac’s four core pillars: Accessibility, Availability, Affordability, and Capacity, ensuring mechanisation services reached farmers when, where, and how they needed them.
“At TracTrac, we believe tractors should be within reach of every farmer, not a privilege for a few.
“Through technology, policy engagement, financial inclusion, and strong partnerships, the organisation is building an ecosystem that not only delivers services but creates lasting capacity for Nigeria’s agricultural sector.”
Speaking on policy engagement, Ohuruogu further said that the company partnered with government in the development of Nigeria’s draft National Agricultural Mechanisation Policy (NAMP).
He described the policy as a landmark framework charting a five-year course for the sector and built on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.
According to him, NAMP addresses critical priorities, including sustainable land development, promotion of appropriate technologies, private-sector investment, robust financing mechanisms, and human capital development.
He further said that the gesture embraces climate-smart and digital agriculture to position Nigeria’s mechanisation drive as both resilient and future-proof.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that TracTrac MSL is a Nigerian-led and owned technology company transforming agriculture by connecting mechanisation service providers, tractor owners, and the wider ecosystem.
It leverages technology and innovative financing solutions, empowers
smallholder farmers to access affordable and reliable mechanisation services, among others.
TracTrac facilitates access to mechanisation services for all farmers in Africa through an integrated platform that enables farmers and cooperatives to lease or own tractors, purchase genuine tractor implements, and access technologies that optimise the use and management of their machinery.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
