Mr Kudzai Mukuku, President of the Africa Investment Leaders Forum, says innovation, sustainability and green urban development is critical to the growth of Africa’s real estate and construction sector.

Mukuku said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday while outlining expectations for the 2026 Africa Real Estate and Construction Awards (ARECA).

He noted that the sector, currently witnessing expansion across the continent, is projected to exceed 1.2 trillion dollars by 2030, with Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and Kenya expected to drive growth.

He stressed the need to recognise stakeholders who have championed best practices and fostered collaboration to navigate Africa’s evolving built environment.

Mukuku, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Real Estate and Construction Summit, said the awards ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos on May 22.

According to him, the event will cover key areas including commercial and residential development, sustainable construction, innovation and leadership in urban planning.

He said ARECA 2026 would honour initiatives that demonstrate excellence and contribute to investment growth and knowledge exchange within the sector.

Mukuku added that beyond recognition, the platform would provide an avenue for stakeholders to examine emerging trends shaping infrastructure delivery and housing development across African cities.

He listed award categories to include best commercial development, best residential project, sustainable building of the year, innovative construction solution, rising star in real estate and leadership in urban development.

“The awards aim to spotlight pioneering efforts that drive sustainable growth, foster innovation and promote regional collaboration across Africa.

“Participants are also expected to tour key development projects in Lagos to gain insights into the city’s evolving real estate landscape.

“The awards, hosted by the Africa Real Estate and Construction Summit, will recognise excellence, innovation and leadership across Africa’s real estate and construction sectors,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
