Promising basketball players are expected to benefit from foreign coaching, talent screening and scholarship opportunities at the fifth edition of the Elebire Ajayi Elite Basketball Camp.

The founder of the camp, Olalekan Ajayi, a former international basketball player, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.

Ajayi said the annual development programme would begin with screening in Lagos on Oct. 19 before returning to Ado-Ekiti for the second consecutive year.

He expressed confidence that the 2026 edition would surpass previous outings, with foreign coaches expected to arrive in Nigeria ahead of the screening exercise.

“I can bet you that we are going to be having a bigger and better camping this time around.

“The foreign coaches are going to be arriving in Nigeria on Oct. 19 and will head straight to the Lagos screening,” he said.

Ajayi said the coaches would screen players from Lagos and neighbouring states to identify promising talents for further development at the camp.

He said selected players and the coaching crew would leave Lagos for Ado-Ekiti on Oct. 20 ahead of the training camp scheduled for Oct. 21 to Oct. 23.

The programme will culminate in an All-Stars game on the final day, while participants are expected to depart on Oct. 24.

Ajayi said the initiative was established in honour of his late father, Babatunde Elebire Ajayi.

He expressed hope that the 2026 edition would build on the achievements of the previous outing, during which 10 players received scholarships.

“We gave out scholarships to 10 players in the last edition, and we are waiting for the coaches to arrive and see how many will be making it this time around,” he said.

The camp is designed to identify promising basketball players, improve their skills and create opportunities for participants to advance their sporting careers. (NAN)
