Rev. Fr. Matthew Maleek, Parish Priest of St. John Paul II, Kubwa, has urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith, unity and service to God and humanity.

Maleek made the call during a joint thanksgiving Mass for the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and Ladies Auxiliary, following their successful convention and election of new leaders in the Abuja Archdiocese.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Brig.-Gen. Francis Njoku was elected Grand President of the Abuja Grand Commandery, while Noble Sister Amaka Umeokeke emerged as Grand Respected President of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Maleek challenged members to reflect on their roles in the Church and embrace total commitment to defending their faith.

“Where do you belong in the Church? Each of us has a role requiring commitment,” he said.

He emphasised that faith must be demonstrated through action, dedication and service to both the Church and society.

“Faith is not passive; it demands visible commitment,” he added, urging believers to act responsibly without waiting for directives.

Describing Christians as pillars of the Body of Christ, Maleek stressed the need to strengthen unity and communal bonds, while also encouraging prayers for national development.

“I challenge you to remain firm in prayer for the Church and the nation,” he said.

He congratulated the new leadership and urged them to lead with humility, service and accountability.

In a goodwill message, Maj.-Gen. Joachim Amamgbo commended the peaceful transition and called for sustained unity within the Order.

“Our leadership must continue to provide direction, discipline and stability,” he said.

Also speaking, Lady Nonye Okafor praised members’ dedication and urged continued commitment to unity and sacrifice.

“Unity and sacrifice remain the foundation of our strength,” she said.

Njoku described the event as a moment of gratitude for God’s guidance and the peaceful conduct of the Dec. 6, 2025 election.

“When God leads, His people find peace,” he said, pledging to reposition the Abuja Commandery as a model of discipline, unity and excellence.

He reaffirmed commitment to spirituality, charity and service, urging members to uphold fraternity and build on the legacy of past leaders.

“Let our lives preach louder than our words,” he added.

Umeokeke said the event was a spiritual milestone of gratitude and renewal.

“We gather as grateful servants, acknowledging God’s faithfulness and committing to serve Him,” Umeokeke said.

She commended members’ sacrifices and urged continued dedication to charity, unity, and service.

“Our service is a sacred calling, not merely an organisational duty,” she added.

Rev. Fr. Gabriel Edache also urged members to remain committed to spiritual growth and the mission of the Church.

“Our calling demands faithful service,” he said.

Mr Honore Hounkpatin congratulated the leadership and commended their dedication to unity and progress within the Order. (NAN)
