Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi on Thursday inaugurated a consensus committee to harmonise the interests of aspirants ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the 2027 general elections.
Inaugurating the committee in Birnin Kebbi, Idris described the APC in the state as peaceful, united, and guided by loyal, law-abiding members committed to the progress of the party.
He said the committee members were carefully selected from experienced party leaders to foster unity and ensure the emergence of candidates through consensus.
“Our party is peaceful, and our members are loyal and law-abiding. We have carefully selected some of our leaders to serve on this committee to bring our members together and build consensus, as we strongly believe in consensus as the way forward,” he said.
Idris said the responsibility of the committee was to engage stakeholders and reconcile interests to ensure a smooth and hitch-free primary process.
“The task before you is to unite our members and ensure that we arrive at a consensus that will strengthen our party and move it forward.
“By the grace of God, I am confident that you will discharge this responsibility diligently and return with positive results,” he said.
Idris formally declared the committee inaugurated and urged members to commence work immediately.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee and former governor of the state, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu-Dakingari, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured that the committee would justify the trust placed in it, noting that its members possessed the experience and capacity to deliver on the assignment.
“I assure you that we will do our best to achieve the desired objectives. I have no doubt about the calibre of members in this committee and our collective ability to succeed,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee comprises Alhaji Saidu Nasamu-Dakingari as Chairman; Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, member; Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, member; and Alhaji Abubakar Gari-Mallam, member.
Others are Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad (Birnin Kebbi), member; Alhaji Attahiru Machido, member; Alhaji Umar Idris-Buro, member; and Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, member. (NAN)
