Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Benue, says the Nigeria Democracy Day symbolises triumph of the people’s will, resilience and quest for democratic rule.

Aondoakaa, who stated this in his Democracy Day message, signed by his media aide, Mr James Ian, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi, described June 12 as a historic milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice emphasised that democracy extends beyond the conduct of periodic elections.

According to him, it must translate into tangible benefits for citizens through responsible leadership, transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.

He said that the true measure of democracy lies in the quality of life enjoyed by the people, noting that governments at all levels must prioritise the welfare, security, and economic well-being of citizens.

Aondoakaa urged Benue citizens to remain committed to democratic values and the pursuit of good governance.

The former minister expressed concern over the numerous challenges facing Benue, including insecurity, economic hardship, youth unemployment, and declining public confidence in institutions.

He said addressing the issues requires visionary leadership, sincerity of purpose, and a governance approach focused on the needs of the people.

He maintained that Benue possesses abundant human and natural resources capable of driving significant development and prosperity if properly harnessed through prudent, inclusive, and people-centred governance.

The PDP governorship candidate called on Benue people to remain hopeful and actively participate in the democratic processes, assuring them that a brighter future is achievable through collective effort and commitment to democratic ideals.

He reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful leadership that would restore public trust, strengthen institutions, stimulate economic growth, and ensure the security and well-being of residents across the state.

Aondoakaa also urged citizens to continue to support the PDP and its vision for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Benue. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
