Ethiopia aims to become a hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa.
To achieve this goal, the country plans to implement several measures, including using the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
It will also develop regional supply chains, strengthen regulatory cooperation and introduce joint procurement mechanisms.
This was stated on Friday by Ethiopia’s State Minister for Health, Muluken Argaw, according to TV BRICS, a NAN partner.
According to the minister, these measures will help expand the production of medical products in Africa.
He emphasised that developing local production of essential medicines, vaccines and medical equipment is crucial to ensuring health security.
“Ethiopia’s ambition looks beyond our borders. We are ready to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area, develop regional value chains, and expand opportunities for African-made health products,” he said.
The Minister emphasised that Ethiopia intends to develop medical tourism at the same time.
According to forecasts, by 2030 the country’s pharmaceutical market will exceed US$4 billion.
