An ex-convict Olamide Oladiran, 25, who allegedly broke into four houses and stole valuables worth N1,025,000, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, a resident of Grace Avenue, Oshodi Area, Ado-Ekiti, is standing trial on a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing.
The police prosecutor, ASP Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 25 at 3:00 a.m. at Oshodi community in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant, who was just released from prison, entered into the dwelling houses of Mrs Funke Ikuomola, Mr Kehinde Gbadamosi, Mr Yinka Kolapo and Mrs Margaret Adedapo, all residents of Oshodi community.
Osuolale said that the defendant stole foodstuffs and provisions valued at N750,000, belonging to Mrs Ikuomola, trouser and shirt valued at N45,000, property of Mr Gbadamosi
Others are: iron rod cutter valued at N150,000 belonging to Mr Kolapo and a fabricated seat valued at N80,000, belonging to Mrs Adedapo.
According to him, the offences contravened Section 323 and 302(1)(A) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case untill May 20 for hearing.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
