Mrs Abiodun Abegunde, Founder of Cute Kids Haven Foundation, has called on government to intensify efforts towards securing the release of children abducted by kidnappers across the country.
Abegunde made the call on Wednesday during the foundation’s 2026 Children’s Day celebration held for more than 200 children in Ikotun community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was the fourth edition of the annual Children’s Day celebration organised by the foundation.
According to Abegunde, government must do everything possible to ensure the safe return of children still in captivity.
“To make this year’s celebration worthwhile, we call on government to do everything within its power to facilitate the release of children in captivity,” she said.
She said the foundation was established to support children and put smiles on their faces.
“Every child deserves to be celebrated and we are here to make that happen.
“We celebrate the joys of childhood, the pride of the nation and the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.
Mrs Victoria Bello, a missionary and volunteer at the event, advised parents and guardians to raise their children in the fear of God, to prevent negative influence from bad company.
Bello said she remained committed to the service of children and appealed to government to make the country safer and more conducive for children to live in.
Also speaking, Mrs Olayinka Konu, a teacher, urged parents to encourage children to acquire skills for a better future.
Konu described children as flowers that beautify the world and called for greater commitment to their welfare and development.
“My children always look forward to this event every year and I appreciate the foundation for its humanitarian services,” she said.
Kong also prayed for peace and harmony in the country as well as the safe return of children abducted by kidnappers.
NAN reports that the children expressed excitement at the event and prayed for the continued growth of the foundation.
Miss Inioluwa Olajide said she felt privileged to celebrate with other children and looked forward to next year’s event.
Master Oluwaseun Chiazor called on government to improve security to prevent attacks and abduction of children.
“I thank the organisers for putting smiles on our faces. This makes us feel special. I hope that one day we will become great leaders of tomorrow,” he said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
