Mr Segun Tomori, an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, has pledged to support owners of Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) with grants.
Tomori made the commitment in his Special message for workers on Friday in Abuja as they commemorate their day.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that workers day is celebrated on May 1 to acknowledge workers’ contributions to development while promoting fair wages, safe conditions and social justice.
He said he would facilitate access to Federal Government initiatives and collaborate with relevant agencies to expand businesses while improving living conditions if given the mandate to serve in the house of representatives
“I will partner with agencies like CREDiTCorp to ensure workers in my constituency have access to the required credit to acquire essential needs that are out of reach, which will be a top priority.
“ Rallying colleagues to pass legislations that will improve the welfare and dignity of Nigerian workers will be vigorously pursued.
“Our best is yet to come as a Nation. We must join hands together, as workers, as leaders to harness her potential and exalt national interest above personal or primordial considerations,” he said.
The former Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development called for renewed and collective commitment to improve the welfare of Nigerian workers.
“As individuals, we must do our utmost to lighten the burden of those around us and endeavour to put a smile on their faces through little acts of kindness,” he said.
According to him, across all sectors of the economy, from tech to civil service to entertainment to manufacturing to agriculture, the dynamism of Nigeria’s workforce continues to drive growth and boost Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He said the day provided an opportunity to celebrate all workers, especially those whose quiet sacrifices had made life in the country better.
“Our vibrant artisans, dutiful cleaners that keep our workplaces and homes conducive, our market men and women who through thick and thin work hard to ensure our tables are never bereft of food.
“We see you. We salute you. You are our unsung heroes,” he said.
NAN reports that Tomori had pledged to push for youth empowerment through digital skills and promote grassroots sports during his declaration of interest to contest for the house of representatives in the 2027 elections.
He was also the Team Lead, Strategic Communication Directorate, 2023 APC Presidential Campaign Council; Personal Assistant to the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, 2021 to 2023 and a member of the APC Screening Committee, APC Abuja Area Council, 2021.
The geology graduate, who also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, was the APC South West Zonal Youth Leader candidate in 2018 and a councillorship candidate for Ailegun Ward, Ejigbo, in 2013/2014. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
