The Coalition of Civil Society Organisation for Good Governance in Nigeria has urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity and avoid politicising security challenges.
The Coalition’s Director of Programmes, Johnson Michael, made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Michael also called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute activist Omoyele Sowore over alleged actions he claimed undermined national security.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff for expanding the Nigerian military and improving the welfare of personnel, describing the measures as critical to strengthening national security.
According to him, the country’s armed forces and other security agencies have remained steadfast in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and territorial integrity.
Michael said the Tinubu administration was also making progress in addressing insecurity and urged Nigerians to unite in support of ongoing security operations.
He also expressed confidence that the new national minimum wage would be implemented next year, urging citizens not to distract the government from its programmes.
The programmes director called on security agencies to ensure that Sowore answer allegations against him through due legal process.
He argued that no individual was above the law, adding that anyone accused of wrongdoing should be subjected to due legal process before a competent court.
Michael also said court premises should not be used for activities capable of disrupting judicial proceedings.
He urged Nigerians to remain united in the fight against insecurity and terrorism in the interest of a peaceful and prosperous nation. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
