Mrs Hannatu Gagara, Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Plateau chapter, has congratulated Sen. David Mark and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) over the Supreme Court judgement delivered on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Mark’s faction in the ADC leadership dispute appeal.
The appeal stems from a ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal on March 12, which dismissed Mark’s appeal against a September 4, 2025 ruling of the Federal High Court.
At the high court, Nafiu Bala, a former vice-chairman of the ADC, had filed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, seeking to stop the Mark-led leadership from parading themselves as national officers of the ADC.
But the apex court’s five-member panel of judges held that the appeal court acted beyond its jurisdiction by unilaterally issuing the status quo order.
Gagara, who is loyal to Mark’s leadership, said that the apex court verdict was indeed one of the greatest things that can happen in a democracy.
“It shows that the system works at least to the extent that even the common man can approach the courts and get justice.
“That’s a victory in itself, and I am truly excited about it.
“We were confident from the beginning that the outcome would be positive and would eventually turn in our favour.
“As you can see, people are jubilating everywhere. That reflects the kind of victory we have achieved, and it also signals that there is more victory ahead.
“My advice is for him to remain focused and to carry everyone along so that, together, we can move the country forward,” she said.
The chairman expressed confidence that ADC would produce a leadership that would be people-oriented and address the sufferings of Nigerians.
She said that the party is moving forward and they do not envisage another crippling challenge.
“This is a time for unity and progress, not for apportioning blame. Everyone should come together so we can move forward,” she urged. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
