Kwara NALVEJ inaugurates new executives

The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ), Kwara State chapter, on Wednesday inaugurated its new executive members.

Alhaji Tunde Akanbi was returned and inaugurated as the chairman at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin.

The election was conducted by the association’s Electoral Committee, chaired by Alhaji Yinusa Giwa, with Hajia Balikis Oladimeji as the secretary.

The administration of the Oath of Office was conducted by Mr Jacob Ayanda, a lawyer and a retired staff member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The executive members are: Comrade Olu Ajayi (Vice Chairman), Christy Doyin (Secretary), Rev. Felix Ajide (Assistant Secretary), and Alhaji Sule Sabi (Treasurer).

Others are Alhaja Silifat Adeyemi (Financial Secretary), Mr Gbenga Olarinoye (Welfare Officer) and Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin (Publicity Secretary).

Speaking at the ceremony, the state Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, hailed NALVEJ members for their support for the state government.

The commissioner, represented by the Director of Information, Mr Ademola Olarewaju, promised journalists the continued support of the state government.

Earlier, Akanbi assured the members of improved welfare, accountability, and transparency in running the league’s affairs.

The newly elected chairman thanked the state government for paying the salaries of state-employed journalists regularly and promptly.

He particularly appreciated the state government for the recent peculiar allowance approved for journalists in the state media establishments.

Akanbi urged Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to consider members of the league for political appointments when reconstituting the state cabinet.

The state NUJ Chairman, Ahmed AbdulLateef, thanked members of NALVEJ, comprising senior and retired journalists, for their wise counsel at all times.

The chairman, represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaja Binta Mora, pledged continued support for NALVEJ. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
