The Police on Tuesday arraigned a landlord, Abdul Ayuba, 56, in a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly removing his tenant’s doors and windows.
The defendant, who was charged with mischief and theft, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Chinenye Okafor, alleged that the defendant on Aug. 2, went to the apartment he rented to the complainant, Godswill Uko, in Jabi, Abuja, and removed some doors and windows.
Okafor said that when the complainant returned from work, he discovered that his apartment was open and his stabiliser valued at N55,000, a wristwatch of N45,000 and an Iphone 12 promax valued at N305,000 were missing.
She said that the alleged missing items were estimated to be worth N405,000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Habiba Bello granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety who she said must provide a means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Bello also ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and that the surety’s address must be verified by the court’s registrar.
She adjourned the matter until Sept. 16 for hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
