The Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has congratulated Lola Akande on her appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akande was a former Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

President Bola Tinubu approved her appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden on March 6, alongside 64 other ambassadors-designate.

The ambassadors were assigned to various foreign missions after their confirmation by the Senate.

LGAN President, Lami Ahmed, described Akande as a distinguished golfer, disciplined leader and strong advocate for women empowerment.

Ahmed said Akande’s appointment reflected the values of excellence, grace and strategic leadership nurtured through golf and public service.

“Akande has consistently demonstrated integrity, discipline and commitment in every responsibility entrusted to her.

“She represents the strength and resilience of Nigerian women who continue to break barriers in sports, governance and diplomacy,” she said.

She noted that Akande’s transition from the golf course to diplomatic service was a source of pride to members of LGAN and Nigerians generally.

“We are proud that one of our own is representing Nigeria on the global stage. Her appointment is well deserved and inspiring.

“She has always empowered women at the grassroots and encouraged younger generations to pursue excellence with courage and determination,” Ahmed added. (NAN)
