The Social Democratic Party, (SDP) candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Mr Solomon Akwashiki, has urged electorate to place competence and merit above party interests when choosing leaders.
Akwashiki, who represents Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, said voters should elect credible and God-fearing leaders, free from ethnic or party sentiments.
The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, spoke on Monday in Lafia after the Forum of Former Councillors in Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas endorsed his candidacy.
He said electing credible, competent, and God-fearing leaders would accelerate development across the country.
Responding to questions on possible conflicts of interest, since some of the former councillors belong to parties that also fielded candidates for the seat, Akwashiki said: “This is not about political party, it is about serving the people first.
“They are not defecting. They want quality representation, which they have seen in me. They have assessed my track record and performance in office,” he said.
Akwashiki said he had drilled several boreholes, provided jobs, empowerment support, and initiated projects with direct impact on the people’s lives.
He promised not to fail the people of the constituency if elected to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in 2027.
The lawmaker thanked the forum for the endorsement and vowed to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Akwashiki also announced a donation of 100 bags of fertiliser and N1 million to the forum, and assured them of his continued support.
He further urged constituents to live in peace and tolerate one another, regardless of political affiliations. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
