The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to promote transparency, accountability and public trust.
The unit was inaugurated on Thursday at the board’s National Headquarters in Benin.
Speaking at the inauguration, NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Aminu, said the establishment of the unit was necessary to provide effective checks and balances within the board and strengthen public confidence in its operations.
“Anybody entrusting money, entrusting any assignment into our hands will believe that we are going to do it with all commitment,” he said.
The NABTEB boss said that since assuming office in March 2025, the management of the examination body had prioritised addressing the board’s internal challenges before tackling external ones.
“We collectively agreed with the entire staff of the board that we will not look at any problem NABTEB is having outside until when we address our own internal problem,” he said.
The registrar expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated ACTU members and called for stronger partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
“ICPC, we need you more. There are many things we need to partner with you,” he said.
He also urged the commission to share its experience with NABTEB on sustaining public trust and strengthening institutional integrity.
In his remark, Mr Odogwu Preye, who represented the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, congratulated NABTEB on the inauguration, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to transparency and accountability.
Aliyu said corruption affected public resources and service delivery.
He added that effective anti-corruption measures would improve accountability and public confidence in institutions.
He said collaboration among government institutions, civil society, the private sector and citizens was necessary to achieve sustainable anti–corruption efforts.
In his acceptance speech, Adetunji Emmanuel, Chairman of the ACTU, NABTEB chapter, said the unit would promote ethical standards, systemic integrity and operational transparency across the Board.
“We are committed to proactive prevention, systemic fairness, collaborative engagement across departments, zonal and state offices through sensitisation and education,” Emmanuel said.
He, however, called for the cooperation of management and staff, stressing that ACTU members would require “courage, vigilance and dedication” to discharge their responsibilities effectively. (NAN)
